Twenty Years Ago Today Twiztid Nationally Released “Mostateless” Beyond Michigan Via Island Records!

Whoa! Like The Steve Miller Band said, “Time keeps on slipping into the future!” After gaining more of a cult following beyond House of Krazees upon Psychopathic Records first releasing Mostasteless” locally in August of 1998, Island Records (Less than a year later) decided to sign Twiztid and re-release their debut underground classic “Mostasteless” on a national level and straight up set the United States hip-hop scene on fire!  Gawd damn the cover art is fresh! Def has that Marvel Comics 1990’s homage. Which reminds me. Dirk Manning of Source Point Press needs to do a mini comic book story behind this LP! Can you remember where exactly you were when you first bumped  the national release of “Mostasteless” and how the record effected your life personally? Leave your stories below ninjas! Let’s bump it loud and proud tonight!

From In The Pit Photography:

“Twenty years ago today, June 22nd 1999, Twiztid‘s “Mostasteless” was re-released (Nationally) on Island Records (Def Jam)

“Mostasteless” was initially released on August 25, 1998 by Psychopathic Records. The alternate cover artwork depicted a two-headed fetus and the main cover artwork depicted the faces of Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child. Psychopathic had not had success with attempting to release albums by artists other than Insane Clown Posse, but “Mostasteless” was well received by ICP’s Juggalo fanbase. While on tour with ICP, Twiztid learned that Psychopathic would pull “Mostasteless” from stores, and that it would be reissued by Island Records.

The Island reissue reorganized the track listing, deleting the “Smoke Break” skits, a hidden track at the end of “Renditions of Reality”, Violent J laughing at the end of “1st Day Out”, sampled dialogue from the film Halloween III: Season of the Witch at the beginning of “Whatthefuck!?!?” along with a few of the lines and the songs “Murder, Murder, Murder”, “Somebody Dissin’ U”, “Meat Cleaver” and “She Ain’t Afraid”, but added the new songs “Rock the Dead”, “Spin the Bottle”, “Blink”, “Bury Me Alive” and “Hound Dogs”. Additionally, some of the lyrics in “Diemuthafuckadie” and “Whatthefuck!?!?” are censored on the Island reissue. This version of “Mostasteless” peaked at #8 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and #149 on the Billboard 200.”
