Once a doctor writes a recommendation, a card can be requested from the state and that card allows the patient to legally buy medical cannabis. Once the patient receives a medical marijuana card, they can then go to a dispensary for their medicine. Some states, however, ask the patient to register with the state first, then go to the dispensary for their medicine.

A medical recommendation is not a medical prescription. It’s moreso a document that states a patient can legally purchase cannabis in a state that allows for legal medical marijuana (MMJ) use.

How do I get a Medical Marijuana Card in Maryland?

On the Maryland commission’s website, you will need to register with the state of Maryland by providing your name, Maryland address, date of birth, and uploading an image of a valid state government ID.
