Anybody Killa’s “Hatchet Warrior” Celebrates 20th Anniversary!

Today marks another important day in Juggalo music  history! Because twenty years ago, on Tuesday, April 8th, 2003, Anybody Killa released the Juggalo favorite debut album “Hatchet Warrior” on Psychopathic Records! The album was a milestone for both the artist and the label, as “Hatchet Warrior” swiftly became another influential Michigan underground record, due to its unique blend of Detroit gangsta rap and underground rock sounds. As “Hatchet Warrior” independently peaked at number 98 on the Billboard top 200, number 42 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and number 4 on the Independent Albums charts within the USA.

“Hatchet Warrior” saw Anybody Killa take his career to new heights as he established himself as one of the best Native American independent rappers at the time. His lyrical themes touched on taboo topics such as violence and drug use while also providing an insight into his own struggles with mental health issues. Although it wasn’t highly commercialized or popular with mainstream audiences, it helped launch him into underground stardom amongst fans of the label that runs beneath the streets and beyond.

Anybody Killa, formerly known as Native Funk, first made his presence felt across the Juggalo world with his appearance on Dark Lotus’s song “Drunken Ninja Master.” This debut Anybody Killa Psychopathic Records appearance was recorded specifically for Twiztid‘s 2001 compilation album “Cryptic Collection Vol. 2”. The Native Funk Warrior then went on to have multiple appearances on Blaze Ya Dead Homie’s debut album “1 Less G n Da Hood”. And this collaboration with Blaze was met with major positive Juggalo response. This success encouraged ABK to keep creating music, impressing Psychopathic Records, leading to them to release “Hatchet Warrior”! Production duties for “Hatchet Warrior” included  Zug Izland, Fritz the Cat, Monoxide, and Violent J, with co-production brought forth by Eric Koder and Shaggy 2 Dope.

ABK has since become a well-known and respected artist amongst the underworld of rap. Being best known for his unique flow and ability to deliver memorable hooks that draw fans into each track Anybody Killa appears on. His lyrics are often aggressive and controversial, but they also contain deep personal messages about life and society that many people can relate to. Currently, Anybody Killa is preparing to unleash another full length LP entitled “Always Bringing Knowledge”.
