Last night, actor Dave Franco appeared on The Tonight Show for an interview with comedian Jimmy Fallon. During the segment, Franco revealed the make or break moment in his relationship with Alison Brie. He recounts that his birthday came up about three months into their relationship. Brie decided to throw her new boyfriend a 1980’s-themed surprise party to celebrate. According to Franco, the guest list was extensive and out of control. It essentially got to the point where the attendees could play an exciting game of “Six Degrees of Separation” in relation to how they knew (or didn’t know) the birthday boy.

By his own admission, Franco is a private person. Despite his career choice, the guy doesn’t like to be the center of attention. Understandable, really. Not a lot of people enjoy such a level of attention from that many people. So, Franco did what most of us would do in that situation: he decided to go to his room and get high to help himself chill out.

But he didn’t light up a joint or use a vape. No, Franco went all out and ate an edible. A pot cookie, to be precise.

The results were predictable. Franco got himself way too stoned. Laughingly, he told Fallon (and the rest of the nation) that he went downstairs to join the party and immediately had a panic attack. He reveals that he had Brie kick everyone out of his house. The only person left stranded was a guy dressed as cocaine–80’s theme party, remember? “Cocaine” eventually got a ride home.

Franco and Brie can laugh about the moment now. “Alison and I still talk about how if we can survive my surprise party, we can survive anything.”
