High Buy: Seedo, the Fully-Automated In-Home Grow Unit

Israel is a country that is regularly in the news. Unfortunately, their political strife often overshadows their innovative technology, meaning Seedo has quietly launched to little fanfare.

Seedo is an Israeli company that is manufacturing a fully-automated, in-home grow unit, for cannabis, other leafy herbs and fresh produce.

On the outside, Seedo—which was recently unveiled at CannaTech—looks innocuous enough, like a dorm room sized mini-fridge. On the inside, it actually contains a compact, hydroponic grow facility.

And you don’t have to be Raphael Mechoulam, the Israeli scientist who first isolated THC, to be able to grow it.

Once a user plants their specific strain/seed, Seedo takes care of watering, lighting and providing the proper nutrients for your selected plant—without ever having to open the door and check on its progress. It can even grow fresh produce. Don’t have a green thumb? Don’t worry. Seedo is a no-brainer.

Even a water shortage won’t be a problem, as long as you have a Water Gen. Water Gen is another piece of amazing Israeli technology, which makes water out of thin air. It actually creates filtered, clean, drinkable water from the condensation in the air.

Uri Zeevi, Seedo’s CEO, explained that, while cannabis plants normally grow bushy and tall, inside Seedo, the plant grows coiled, like a snake, in order to fit and flourish inside the box.

The Seedo units are pricy, upwards of $2400, take several months to yield any results and are not yet commercially available. While this little box may be a marvel, for now, maybe stick with more affordable Israeli inventions, like laser keyboards, USB drives, Viber, Waze and Wix.
